What are my top 3 elements of a 21st Century Classroom?
1. Engaged and motivated learners: I would like my students to love to learn and always want to find out more. I want to be able to give them the tools they need to use technology to further their knowledge and make them self-learners.
2. Not afraid to fail: I would like my students to not be afraid to make mistakes or get the wrong answer. To feel comfortable enough to take risks in learning. To try many different processes to get to a solution.
3. Digital learners: Since my students all have technology of some sort in their lives I would like to capitalize on this knowledge and get them to use these devices for learning and problem solving.
Jane,
ReplyDeleteI am very intrigued that you have three iPads to use as a resource in your classroom. What are the most successful uses that you have discovered when sharing the iPads with your students? Technological advances are difficult to keep up with, but it sounds like your district places technology at a high level! After reading your top three elements of a 21st century classroom, I completely agree with your statements. Choosing to keep up with technology and share it with your students will be extremely effective. I appreciated your first element stating that engaging and motivating students is the top priority. Many teachers become scared or apprehensive about using new technological resources within the classroom, but it appears that fear is not standing in your way. Thanks for sharing your passion for technology and teaching with us!

Jane, I have to absolutely agree with you about no fear. You can't be afraid of technology if you want to succeed, both as a treacher and as a student. Once your students feel comfortable with their peers and you their creativity really begins to show. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. :)
ReplyDeleteJane,
ReplyDeleteCreating a learning environment that allows students to take risks is so important! Excellent job at doing that! Being a fellow first grade teacher we share many of the same ideas: creating life- long leaners, reading for intrinsic pleasure, and collaborating together. I am a little jealous of the fun technology tools you have! Students having access to Ipads, netbooks, and a digital video camera would definitely help create meaningful and engaging activities.
Jane, I am so excited that you have iPads and is going well with implementing them. I would love to know more about this. Your three elements of a 21st Century Classroom seem well thought out. I remember the PBS video we saw commenting on how students need to be able to accept change. I believe your three elements will create students who are adaptable and life-long learners.
